RV Bathrooms Make or Break Your RV- Sometimes Literally!

RV Buying Frenzy

In case you haven't noticed, the RV Industry is booming.  Partly because of the surge in interest.  Partly because of the supply chain disruption stemming from Covid.  Regardless, I have a couple ideas for your next RV purchase-if you can find what your looking for that is! As I write this post, it is currently the month of September in 2020. I feel like I need to document those dates because we might look back on all this and see that it was erased from history. Seriously though, it is crazy to think about what has happened in the  the RV industry today. Previously, I worked as a RV manufacturing rep for years and not tool long ago, I had dealers calling me asking me to help them find customers? Now, those But now same dealers call me to ask if I can help them find a RV! I have learned that sometimes as fast as a sector in the market goes up, it just as quickly it can go down. I suspect that in the next 8-12 months, there is going to be yet another change for all of us when it comes to the RV world. It seems that everywhere you go, there's a saying about the weather. You know, something like if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes. So, the climate right now in the RV industry is going to change soon in the next 15 minutes, metaphorically speaking. It's all going to eventually come to a screeching halt, but it's just too early in the game to say when. When it does however, there will be plenty of inventory for you to choose from and a lot of good deals out there, especially from the impulse buyers.

RV Dealer Inventories are VERY Low

As previously mentioned, there's a lot of backlogs in every RV manufacturer's system.  I speak with manufacturing reps all the time and I consider many of them good friends. They are all saying the same thing- orders, orders, orders, and not enough materials to build! Chassis shortages are just the start of their problems. This isn't any new information that you don't have access to, but all of them are talking about this and especially the publicly traded RV manufacturers. Listen in to their quarterly earnings calls and you can confirm this information.  Backlogs are through the roof now. I want you to think about this for a minute. If RV dealers are selling through their inventory very quickly and it's going to take them a very long time to replenish their lots. I suspect a lot of customers may put the brakes on unwind their orders.  I mean who wants to wait a year to get their RV when it's going to be another model change by that time? There are RV dealers out there that have RV's that they cannot sell because they do not have windows.  Windows! Despite not having this important feature, RV manufacturers are asking dealers to take unfinished goods so they can get them out the door and invoice them. They need more room to be able to create new products and they're offered to either come back and fix what's broker or have the dealer perform the work. Crazy times indeed!

RV Bathrooms Should Make or Break Your RV Buying Decision

I shared with you all that info in order to present an idea that may aid you in the process of finding your perfect RV. If you're fortunate enough to walk into a dealership or to see what you are after from a private seller, the first thing that I would ask you to do is go to the bathroom. Ok, that sounded wrong.  I am not suggesting that you actually go to the bathroom, but go into the bathroom and pretend! Get in the shower. Sit on the toilet. Close the door. Look at the cabinet space. Do all that you would normally do in your bathroom at home.  Why? You will be amazed at how many RV manufacturers consider the bathroom as an afterthought! Just about every Real Estate Agent out there will tell you that homes are built with kitchens and the bathrooms in mind first.  The quickest way to add value to your home is to update the kitchen and bathrooms. Sadly, many RV manufacturers just don't get that and they continue to make larger living spaces with smaller and smaller bathrooms. If you're having difficulty deciding on a RV or if you're thinking about compromising and getting something that may not be exactly what you want, then I would tell you a very quick way to determine if the RV will work for you is to go into the bathroom to see how comfortable you are.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, consider these issues facing the RV market today. Use them to your advantage and take your time to research. Don't overlook common mistakes by not spending time in the bathroom of the RV you think you may want to buy.  It might just change your mind!
