01. Timing! Timing! Timing!

Did you know that RV Manufacturers incentivize their dealers, especially at certain times of the year? If you know when quarter-end is for your manufacturer, then you have an advantage. This information is usually fairly easy to find.

Often times it is best to buy right before or right after quarter-end, especially with publicly traded RV manufacturers because of the quarter-end sales targets. Extra incentive money is passed out during this time!

02. Show Me The Money!

Did you know that most RV Manufacturers make direct payments to the sales staff when they sell their brands? As a former manufacturing representative, I know all about these payments, which are affectionally referred to as spiffs in the industry.

While this practice is not unique to the RV industry alone, it does help drive sales. One unit may have a larger spiff on it than another and if you are relying upon your salesperson to help you make a buying decision, then this extra payment may influence their recommendation. Know this before you buy!

03. Plan On Service!

Did you know that buying from your local dealer if and when possible will come in handy when you need service or warranty work? The internet has drastically changed RV buying opportunities forever.

Although it is tempting to overlook your closest dealer, you may want to factor future service needs into the equation before you buy. The reason is simple you will receive preferential treatment when it comes to your service and warranty needs and all RV’s need service.

They are houses on wheels! You may receive a better deal elsewhere, but you should consider the advantages to buying local as this one of many!

04. Cash Is No Longer King!

Did you know that cash is no longer “King” in the RV business? Due to the competitive landscape and increase in manufacturer offerings, financing your new RV through the dealer may help you lower your overall price. This is because of the relationship between dealers and banks.

Dealers will often receive a percentage or payment when they secure their buyer with a bank. This is common and is always factored into the price when negotiating.

Unless you have excellent terms with your own financing, you may want to go through the dealer if and this is a big if you are receiving a better deal and or better interest rate than what you would have when financing on your own.

05. Push & Pull Programs

Did you know that RV Manufacturers will sometimes assist with the sale of a unit by providing what is called a “push and pull” opportunity for the dealer? The push and pull scenario is when a dealer agrees to sell a unit for less than they would normally sell it for because they need to move aged inventory and the manufacturer needs fresh product on the dealer's lot.

This is usually performed in this way the dealer asks the manufacturer for a specific amount of money to help “make” the sale. The manufacturer agrees, but usually if the dealer agrees to buy a certain amount of new product or provide orders for future delivery. Why is this important?

Because if a unit has been on a dealer’s lot for a year or longer, this will help you get the price lower because the dealer is going to receive money from the manufacturer and will pass it on to you!

About Us

Meet Dr. James Upham

Hi, I'm James, a husband and father of an incredible wife, 3 amazing kids, and one little dog that's actually more resembles a cat. We have been a RV family for years and our kids have grown-up in the RV life, from pack'n'plays and car seats, to arguments over bunks! So, we know a thing or two about what you need in an RV.

Over the last 20 years I've been a part of the RV industry in just about every way from wholesale manufacturing rep to retail and everywhere in between. For years, it was difficult traveling every week while building relationships with dealers all across the southeastern region because I was away from my family. I knew that there had to be a better way to serve clients and not miss another soccer game or chorus performance. Thus, My RV Broker was born and it has been one of the best career decisions I have ever made because now I am blessed to do what I love by helping others get the best RV deal possible and be home for dinner every night with my family.

I'm such a fan of the RV Industry that I completed my Doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in International RV Business. So, I pretty much dig the RV lifestyle!
