Many of you know what I believe when it comes to buying local. The reason is simple. When you buy local- I mean dealers closer to where you are and those that do not require traveling from state to state. Local dealers are going to take care of you for your service needs a good deal better than those that bought their RV elsewhere. Especially if they carry the same brands! You become a transient customer when you buy your RV from six states over and you most often will not get the service you deserve locally, despite what the selling dealer told you! You see, your local dealer will eventually know who you bought it from and may encourage you to go back there for your service needs because they are too busy taking care of their own customers. Point is that you are almost always better off to buy locally if you can, because you're going to eventually need service and maybe even warranty work.
The next best thing that you should look for when you've determined that you might buy from a certain dealer is to see what awards they have earned from RV manufacturers. Every RV manufacturer likes to brag on their dealers and every dealer wants to be the best at what they sell. There are a lot of dealers out there that like to carry products just for the name for the banner for the flag out front. However, RV manufacturers are now making it more difficult for dealers to be awarded and recognized as a premier dealer.
Most of the time, dealers w'll have displays with trophies and plaques awarded in honor of great sales and service. RV Manufacturers will require certain items they need to check off their list for what the dealer has done well. Some RV Manufacturers will poll and interview customers to see how well they were taken care of. Some of these accomplishments on the lists are pretty hard for a dealer to achieve. So it's not just the big dealers that get these and I think that's what's really neat about it. It basically encompasses many areas of the overall RV buying experience, not just with the retail sale only, but also how well dealers take care of customer after the sale.
Be sure to read through the service reviews of your RV dealer of choice BEFORE you buy and look for RV Manufacturer awards! If the dealer does not consider these as priorities, then that could be a red flag and you may want to buy elsewhere.
Happy RVing!
